Tulip Eating Bunny

I wish I had a picture of this little dude (or dudette?). I wish I had a picture of his mother, as well. Here's the story of the Tulip Eating Bunny. Jesse (my son) started breeding rabbits because he also breeds snakes, and as you may know, bunnies make good snake food. Of course, as time went on, we had our favorites and they became pets and were never, ever fed to the snakes (although their off-spring were fair game). Jesse bought Crooked Neck as a baby and his other rabbit supplier, Jarren, told him to just get rid of her, as he noticed that her neck was crooked. It's some genetic thing. Well, Crooked Neck was a sweetheart and we all fell in love with her so she lived. Not only was she sweet, she was a wonderful breeder, always ready for action (unlike some of our other stubborn prude-ish bunny-women). She was also a fantastic mother. Her litters were large and it was very rare for her to lose a baby. Not only that, but we could throw any baby bunny in with her and she would take it in as her own and it would survive. Mind you, Crooked Neck's babies were not always beautfiul but they were always healthy and robust. Thus, the story of The Tulip Eating Bunny.
Some wise-guy threw Crooked Neck in with our little black dwarf male. He went to town, as rabbits do, and she took. The babies were very adorable, tiny, tiny things and all different colors but mainly black. One little guy escaped at about 2 months old. We could never catch him but even more amazingly, Zoe' could never catch him. Zoe' loved rabbit for dinner. She was a good girl and never tortured the rabbits in their cages (as neighboring dogs have done in the past) but if there was an escapee, well, to her it was fair game, and we agreed. Dogs will be dogs.
We watched this little guy grow up and cheered him on because he was obviously a foxy-little rabbit to out-fox Zoe' on a daily basis. That said, he is the ugliest rabbit you have ever seen. He has a huge full-sized head, like Crooked Neck, although his neck is straight, and and a little dwarf body. He makes up for his lack of good looks, though, with his survival skills.
I really, really, really wish he wouldn't eat my tulips. I love tulips. I moved to Florida from Michigan when I was nineteen years old and really missed having tulips in spring. Now I have a chance to have my very own tulips but he won't leave them alone! I can't shoot him, I don't want to poison him, and it wouldn't do any good to trap and release him because I'm just sure he would come back. So, he's safe, but still, I wish he wouldn't eat my tulips!

Love, love, loved this story! Everything from soup to nuts is genuine… especially the unique name Crooked Neck. I'm laughing and even snorting a bit.
“He is the ugliest rabbit you have ever seen. He has a huge full-sized head, like Crooked Neck, although his neck is straight, and and a little dwarf body. ” OMG… you don't even want to know what is going through my mind right now!!! Too funny.
There has got to be something out there to deter this Big Headed, dwarf rabbit from eating your tulips!!! Either that, or start hoping something can out last, out wit and out play him.
Thanks for the great laugh, Ayla. I'm sendin' you some seeds for this one!!!
Hugs!
-Susan
GF … I'm sending you some tulips! This dude is bionic!!! Big head, dwarf body! and an amazing family tree! I love him for his tenacity, his inner strength and endurance … and he survives YOUR WINTERS!!!! OMG!!! He is “Totally Bionic BUNNY!!!” What color/colors is he? and please tell us again what's his name? OMG!!! I love this! I love him!
OK, you gotta admit you love this guy! I know you do. He has some Zoe spirit in him. What a critter!
The neighbors behind me have an adorable chocolate bunny … yes, he is a deep dark brown bunny … who escapes like a fiend… and he loves to romp through my large wild backyard and sometimes he gracefully makes an entrance to our well-maintained front/side yard. He is so cute … and he too … loves to munch on the tulips! I have tons of daffodills and it looks like my other spring bulbs will make it … but the tulips must be a delicacy! We must consult w/ Beatrice Potter … doncha think?
Damn, I needed a big smile - thanx Peri & Susan. He is black! We call him The Big Headed Bunny or simply The Survivor! I really like Bionic Bunny better though - I wonder if he would mind if we changed it? You know, he used to find food very easily because he would go into the bunny barn and simply eat the rabbit food that the other rabbits had spilled (they are good at that). But we gave all the rabbits away about three months ago and he's still making his rounds so he must have figured something else to eat during the winter. I was worried actually but he looks fine. Yeah, so okay, I love him. :0)
