What was the last thing you learned how to do?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for January 03, 2009:
Does it count if I am still in the process of learning? My husband had what the doctors thought was a gallbladder attack last month but all of his tests came out fine. So I asked for a H-pylori blood test & a cholesterol screening just for good measure. Well, he tested positive to the H-pylori bacteria (good reason for pain in the gut!) but his cholesterol reading was the worst news. Turns out he has five risk factors for Metabolic Syndrome, six if you count smoking, and that adds up to a very high risk for heart disease. So, I have to learn how to cook healthy. I grew up in Michigan, meat & potatoes country (plenty of fried foods, fats, & a plethora of desserts!) and although I don't cook everything as unhealthy as my Grandmother & Mother did, I do tend to lean towards the less than healthy dietary choices.
That's going to change. So is my pantry.

Help

I think see it as a great opportunity
boundaries is oftn what fires up creativity
Our bodies are our temples and our homes.
We can’t play here without them.
so congrats

Good for you, Michelle, in more ways than one. Look on it as a great adventure and have fun! Maybe you can pretend you’re in a beautiful cucina in Tuscany…
I keep telling myself to stop promoting this stuff but….
Raw for 30 days
Simply raw
Thank you for stopping by Jena & Mamakat - I’m having fun going through the books & cookbooks I found at the libary. Joe, I watched the videos & am intriqued. I have huge doubts about getting my husband to eat that way but I think it might be something I could do (I don’t like meat, that helps!). Do you eat raw?
Love, Ayla
Wow. Well, look at it as an adventure to learn about some other aspect of life, which is eating differently. A good cook is just that and will manage with whatever needs to be cooked. I say all this knowing that it would be somewhat of a challenge if I had to change my cooking and eating habits. I wish y’all well in this new adventure.
You can do it. I’m here to say: you can do it. You will probably even learn to fall head-over-heels in love with the new way of eating. Gall bladders & cholestrol & hearts love things like brown rice and beans and veggies. They’ll be dancing in the streets after awhile, begging for more. :)
LOL! I can just see cartoon hearts & gallbladders out dancing in the streets. Actually, there are lots of yummy things to eat as far as heart healthy goes. Brad was all bummed out about “eating lettuce & tuna fish for the rest of my life” until I showed him the recipe books I found and cooked him a yummy meal. He just brightened right up! I don’t know if it’s true that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach but it sure does improve his mood.
Love you both!
Hay - Check this out.
Food matters
I eat a lot of raw - I also juice - I alsoeat Wendys doubles just to stay balanced - Iwas a cowboy you know…bunkhouse, 10 hour days in the saddle - all of it…. Tell Brad salads are OK, Sushi ain’t so bad if you take it home and cook it, and tofu won’t hurt you if you eat it fast enough.
LOL! My cowboy likes salads & Sushi but tofu? Never! Thanx for the link. xo
